"Japanese Stone Turtle..." Jolyne muttered, looking over the creature before her with a critical eye. It looked rather pleased, happily basking on the lip of the concrete pond it was living in.

Very, very carefully, she reached out. Ran one little finger over the thick shell of the reptile.

"Heh, aren't you a brave young lady?"

She jumped a little at the voice, more because she didn't expect it than actually being afraid! Jolyne Kujo wasn't afraid of a darn thing! She was Jotaro Kujo's daughter, and Jotaro Kujo wasn't afraid of anything! So she turned around, mouth set in the most stern frown (Not really a pout! No sir!), and looked straight up at the bigger...boy?

Definitely...older than her. And tall. Taller than any other kid she had seen running around this town, including the other teens. Though he was quick to crouch down beside her, blue eyes focusing on her...and she suddenly felt...not afraid, no...nervous? No, he wasn't upsetting her, but she felt some kind of...connection. She could swear she felt an itch on her back, and her heart jumped a little. She was thankful he broke eye contact with her. It made a lot of those inscrutable feelings ease up. Though his profile was still making her heart feel a little weird. Most boys did that though. Boy crazy, her mother had called it. It was always followed by a sage nod, and if her father was there to witness it, a groan of Yare, yare daze.

Though maybe it was just the boy's hair, standing up all stiff and perfectly shaped?

"I'm scared of 'em myself. The idea of touching one gives me the heebie jeebies," The boy continued, as if totally oblivious to her confusion. In spite of his declaration, he still nervously reached out a hand to the turtle as well...or would have, if not for other high-school kids who appeared before them.

They were mean. Punks. That's what they were. Though luckily, they seemed satisfied with bothering the boy, and not her. And he seemed to handle being picked on by them just fine, simply going along with everything , not really giving them the satisfaction acting nervous...until they picked up the turtle.

Jolyne was not fine with that. And before she could stop herself, she spoke. "Hey! Put Mr. Turtle down!"

And once the words came out of her mouth, she realized she had let herself make a mistake. One that suddenly had her behind the bigger boy, his hand on her hair.

The Japanese they used was too quick for her, and the dialect too unfamiliar, although she thought she heard a lot of shut ups.

And then the turtle was thrown, slamming into the pavement nearby.

Well, that tore her resolve, and before she knew it she was dashing away from all the mean boys to go help the turtle. Though even she knew...there was no helping that poor animal. A broken shell was not something that could be fixed.

The next few minutes were a blur to her. She had become intent on the turtle, and trying her best not cry. Dad said she'd be sent back home if she even cried a little! But the turtle! The turtle was gonna die and it was scared and in pain! She understood that much!

So she was surprised to suddenly see the boy next to her, actually speaking very softly as he pushed her away from the injured animal. "Hey, hey, kid. It's okay, I got this."

Jolyne had only looked away for a moment, to the boy. And then back to the turtle, only to see that it was suddenly fine and looking rather pleased at being picked up and take back to the safety of it's pond.

She followed, eyes on the now healthy turtle, and clinging to the boy's pant leg. Not that he seemed to notice.

"I had to touch that turtle, even though I didn't want to!" He said, turning back to the mean boys. "What do you plan on doing about that, huh?!"

And with that, they were gone, and her father had suddenly appeared on the scene. Or maybe he had been there the whole time?

"Higashikata Josuke," Daddy said in his deep, almost bored tone. Josuke, huh?

"Josuke!" She cried, hugging the young man with all her might around his leg. This is him! The person Daddy had been looking for! Her dad was still talking, saying stuff she still didn't understand. Something about Grandpa Joseph, but the important part to her was what he said after that. "I am Kujo Jotaro. I guess I'd be considered your nephew. The little rugrat clinging to your leg..."

Josuke finally looked down at her again, and their eyes met again, which made her heart jump, again.

"Is my daughter, your grandniece, Jolyne."

There was only one response to that, one that she had been practicing with her honorary uncle since the trip had been planned.

"Nice to meet you, Josuke-Ojisan!...Did I do it right?"

"Yare, yare daze."
